Great wakame. Mild flavor. A little goes a long way as it reconstitutes. My miso go-to.
Very good.
My favorite wakame, superior taste, very clean product, quick shipping
This is absolutely delicious and easy to use. Added a tablespoon to my miso soup and it was the perfect amount. Tastes exactly like it does at Asian restaurants!
This dried seaweed is perfect for making miso soup at home. A little goes a long way, so this bag will last a good while.
Wonderful flavor, color and texture. Super easy to use and I love that it doesn't have additives. Clean tasting.
I use this to make me so I don’t need to do anything to it. I just shake it right into the soup and it’s already a good size.
I couldn’t find seaweed salad anywhere locally, so I gave this a try — and I’m so glad I did. I didn’t have high expectations, but it’s genuinely delicious and super easy to prepare. I use a 4:1 ratio of water to seaweed and let it soak for a few minutes, then drain and gently squeeze out the extra water. The texture after rehydrating is great — soft but still with a nice bite. I usually add rice vinegar, a little fish sauce, and sesame seeds for a quick and tasty seaweed salad. It also works beautifully in poke bowls and sushi bakes. It makes a surprising amount — the seaweed expands a lot when rehydrated, so one package lasts for many servings. I store it in an airtight container on the shelf, and it’s held up really well over time with no change in quality or texture. For a shelf-stable pantry item, this one really delivers.
Excellent product, very flavorful. I will order again.
This is the best Wakame sea weed that i have ever bought. Dried perfectly—reconstitutes with water quickly and the flavor is mild and not bitter
Used this seaweed for a miso soup I made and it turned out great ! Really good flavor just wasn’t ready to see how big they get when they expand ! Would buy again !
I love seaweed salad and decided to try my hand at making it at home. Rehydrating was easy and the texture is wonderful. It does have a fishy smell/taste that some people like and some don't. Washing and rinsing repeatedly helps. Vinegar helps even more. As a raw salad nothing covered it completely. I haven't tried it in soup yet.I'm not saying it's a bad taste, some people enjoy the brine overtones, but it is there and if you are sensitive to it your expectations should be reasonable. It can be lessened or covered with other flavors but it is definitely overwhelming when you first start rehydrating. It helps to be prepared for that so your not left wondering if you made a terrible mistake. 😉
I bought this for making seaweed salad. It was the best value that I could find at the time. It was also my first time making seaweed salad. I soaked it to rehydrate waiting with bated breath until the time that I could enjoy the seaweed salad. Maybe it was my lack of patience, or lack of know how, but getting the seaweed into the little slices like store bought seaweed salad was not happening. After 20 minutes of attempted slaughter of the seaweed, I gave up and made a chunky seaweed salad. Chunky seaweed salad is very fishy. I would say this product is not great for 1st time seaweed salad makers but probably fantastic for other things that need seaweed.
I *love* seaweed salad. I order it every time I go out for sushi. Usually, it's about $5 per serving in restaurants. I don't know why, but it occurred to me that I might try to make it on my own - especially after I saw how simple the recipe is. I ordered this wakame for my project. I wasn't quite sure after I rehydrated it; it was darker than the seaweed I usually get in restaurants. (Also, I was too lazy to slice it into slivers, which is how you usually see the seaweed in restaurant salads.) I served it to visiting family members before I'd even tried it and it was a *huge* success.
I wanted to make my own wakame salad, since the commercial brand available comes from Asia, and has food coloring in it -- and is triple or more the price than making it yourself! I'm guessing that the amount hydrated wakame from the package equals about 1.5 quarts - I covered it with warm water, and it immediately absorbed it all and asked for more; did this 2-3 times until it stopped expanding. There are plenty of online recipes for the Asian dressing that turns it into a great salad. I could wish that there was a shredded variety, but the hydrated product is delicate enough for a salad, and I probably could slash it up into smaller pieces if motivated. It grows on the rocky seashore here in California, and occasionally I grab some off the rock for a salty snack. The flavor of this product is just as fresh!I just realized that this product comes from China, not the US -- while it is delicious, I worry about where in China it is harvested, since seaweed can absorb harmful substances in polluted waters, and there is no quality control indicated on the package...
I ordered this after I had a difficult time buying a very specific type of wakame that I usually buy from Okinawa (which is seasoned by them), but I couldn't find any seasoned wakame anywhere, including Amazon, so I finally broke down and bought this one. I was not disappointed. I thought the flavor was very good (better than I thought it was going to be without any "seasoning"), it was not salty at all (which I have experienced with some others), and it goes great with my rice and jasmine tea. I am happily surprised, and will definitely order again once the price drops a little more (price is not outrageous, but is also not the best price I have seen pre-covid).
The dried seaweed expands A LOT in warm water. Like a lot of people I wanted to recreate seaweed salad at home like I get at the Japanese restaurants but this is more so what you get in Miso soup. The restaurant seaweed salad stuff is pre-made with food coloring and preservatives. I hydrated this, cut it and made the ginger, sesame dressing to eat over cucumbers and it was delicious. Not the same exact textures as what I have come to expect with the marketed "seaweed salad" but I actually prefer this now, and with the dressing it had all the flavors that I crave.
Never bought seaweed before, dried or otherwise. It's very salty to start with and of course very dry... soak it in water and rinse several times, finally using hot water allow it to rehydrate. A small amount of dried becomes a lot when rehydrated. Once rehydrated can be stored in a zip lock bag in the fridge for a while. I used it as part of a quick breakfast, I make a dozen hard boiled eggs and keep in the fridge for later along with a bag of this rehydrated seaweed. For breakfast a couple of hard boiled eggs sliced in half and this seaweed on the side, all sprinkled with that sesame seed sushi/rice topping (whatever it's called) and a cup of coffee. I will buy the larger bag size next time.
Easy to hydrate. Simple to use. Excellent "seashore" flavor. And a little goes a LOOOOONG way. I'm still on my first bag that I bought months ago. So here's my story: Regular ramen bowls at restaurants give me headaches. Bummer, because they are so delicious, but I came up with a home version I adore (without headaches!) I use a Trader Joe's miso ramen cup, I add about a half can Amy's Mushroom bisque soup (also amazing on its own, or to add to other things), a little freshly ground pepper, and this seaweed. It's... sublime (modesty aside). You can also add chicken. I hydrate the seaweed in a tiny bowl while I'm getting the soup ready. I toss out the water is was soaking in (and pray that I'm also getting rid of any strange chemicals from unknown waters), cut it up small with kitchen shears inside the bowl (I don't handle it), and spoon it into the bowl with the soup. I love it, and hope that you will, too. Oh, also, you can do all the heating with a microwave - bonus! Almost no dishes, too. I also cut up the ramen noodles with the kitchen shears. I know it's supposed to be bad luck (long noodles, long life and all), but flicking soup on my clothing seems like bad luck in the here and now, and I want noodles that fit on my soup spoon. Duh, right? ;-)
My grandkids live several states away, but I use Amazon's free shipping, Prime Pantry, and Subscribe and Save, to send them food, gift, and snacks. My oldest likes things that are not small-town midwest-America ordinary. Which is where Amazon comes in handy. (I pity her boyfriend on date night. At her age, she should be asking for McDonald's, but instead, she wants Korean Barbeque or Sushi.) Currently, I send her spicy ramen bowls monthly on Subscribe and Save. Because she considers the dehydrated veggies I send to be boring, I changed things last month by sending this seaweed instead. This month she asked me to double her seaweed order. Trust me, she never asks for extra dehydrated veggies. It's not the kind of food I eat, but its green and she wants more, so I'm happy. Thank you Amazon, :)
