Originally I bought this because my son wanted a tea tree oil facial cleanser. However I find myself using it. I do have older mature skin but it's still oily, this cleanser does my skin very well. Does not over dry over strip my skin does not feel tight after I've washed it my pores look better. I'm not breaking out as much as I had been. It's a great product at a great price get a such a large amount.

This face wash is the bomb! If u r looking for a simple ah ha moment in the spa look no further. Leaves your face tingly fresh and clean! SO ADDICTIVE!

I’ve been using this face wash every single day for about six years. It completely removed all of the texture on my forehead. I’m obsessed! Super thin formula so I found if you put it in a spray bottle you don’t need to use so much bc it’s runny. When I first started using it, it did sting slightly. Not in a painful way, but it was like that for the first week of using it. I use it every day and go through one of these bottles in about 6-8 months. It’s great for oily skin but if you have dry or combination skin just use a good moisturizer.

I use this soap on my face and body every day, for many years! I have normal skin, drier in winter, oilier in summer. I love to scrub underarms with it because the tea tree helps to deodorize. A very non-sweaty person might even be able to get away with little or very natural deodorant; however I need all the stops so it's a great first step in my anti-stink routine. If they stop making it I will be devastated. I transfer it into a small travel bottle in the shower. It lathers great and smell natural-clean (think walking down the aisle of a health-food store) but it dissapates quickly, maybe a slight tea tree scent lingering. A family member found it too drying for the face, but I do not.

Really love this face wash. Great for oily skin and leaves my face feeling clean all day but not dried out.Took a star off bc I'm a little confused as to why there wouldn't be a pump with the bottle? Ended up wasting half of it when I tried to poor a little bit in my hand and dropped the whole bottle bc it's too big to really hold on to. Just a heads up to order a pump separately.

Been using for decades. Very effective and astringent. A little goes a long way, as it foams better than others, but not an incredible amount. That can lead to applying too much, then having to wash longer thereby risking dry skin. I find using it in a foaming pump dispenses the proper amount.I have oily skin, but also sensitive to drying. I find this formula great. I can omit moisturizer after using and my face won't peel off from dryness.It can build up after awhile and gum up dispensers. And if you over tighten the cap on this bottle it will crack. Have had that happen half a dozen times. Too thin or cheap plastic. DE you can do better.I've grown to enjoy the smell, though in reality tea tree is a bit noxious. This is no fault of the product. And the it's not heavily perfumed. But also not fragrance-free. I do wish they offered different fragrances, like mint or gentle herbals. But the tea tree is the secret to the magic, so I guess it'll do.

I was a Dessert Essence Body Wash for my face user for nine to ten years. I still love it, but the bottle integrity seems to have chaged in the last year ar so. That bottle waste lots of the liquid out when it's turned upside down in the shower, unlike prior. So, I switched over to the actual face wash.At first I didn't like it's thinness as compared to the body wash's thickness of the actual cleanser it was disconcerting, but thick or thin does not matter in reality. It is the effectiveness that matters. Even though they both have coconut in them the scents are completely different. The former definitely has a light scent of coconut whereas the face wash's aroma is more like tea tree. That was kind of disconcerting for me at first, but it does/did grow on me.The cleansingis phenomenal. It's like it immediately lifts the dirt of the day off my face. My face instantly feels clean and softer. I don't get a moisturizing factor to it. I do feel as though I need to put some moistrizer on directly, actually, but I do like the way my face feels after I have cleansed my face with it. Frankly, no matter what you cleanse your face with, in my opinion you must put moisturizer on your face anyway, within 30-45 seconds of drying your face. Or while your pores are still open to receive the moisture.I would and do recommend it to anyone who'd like an absolutely clean face. Yes, Dessert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash is my new go-to face and neck cleanser.

This is the absolute best face wash. After struggling with average acne and super sensitive skin, this product, in combination with their tea tree facial pads, has kept my skin perfectly clear for more than 10 years. It’s the only thing I use and I get compliments and questions often asking how I never breakout. I’ve even been able to stop wearing foundation, as it’s evened out my skin tone, too.The smell is initially unpleasant if you’re not familiar with the true smell of tea tree; it is a strong tea tree scent. But I promise, give yourself a full month to use this each day and by the end of the month you’ll be adjusted to the smell (it doesn’t linger after the shower) and will see real results in your complexion. I highly recommend buying the tea tree facial pads, too. And you can use this soap (and the face wipes) anywhere on your body.All of that said, ***I will never again purchase this from Amazon and that’s the only reason I’m not leaving 5 stars (the genuine/unspoiled product is worth 5+ stars).***The bottle I received from Amazon, though it was the same in appearance, the smell was not there — it actually has no smell at all, which is a huge red flag. It also doesn’t feel the same on my skin when I’m applying it; after a week of use, my skin started to burn after use and would feel dry and irritated all day. I stopped use and bought a bottle directly from a Whole Foods-kind of store, and I’m immediately back to normal. The one from the store smells right, feels right during the lather, and makes my skin feel good after (side note: the genuine/unspoiled product lathers a lot more in soft water, while in hard water it will give a “squeaky clean” effect and less lather; I used it in hard water for the last 8 years, have only had soft for 2 years, and it was fine, but I have had a couple friends who didn’t like the squeaky clean feeling, so just keep that in mind regarding how it reacts in water depending on the water you have). I don’t know if the one from Amazon was just too old or maybe had been exposed to extreme heat in a warehouse. It doesn’t seem like it was necessarily a fake product, but something was not right, so I can’t recommend it from here.Go grab yourself a bottle directly from the source and you won’t regret it. Plus, they always have discounts running, so often times it’s cheaper from the manufacturer website (I just had a credit to use here so I thought why not... lesson learned). I’d also suggest starting with the smaller pump bottle if you haven’t used this before. If you get to the end of the bottle/month and feel it’s right for you, then keep the pump bottle and start buying this big refill size.Good luck on your skin care journey!

This is a fantastic product. It has put my blepharitis in remission and cured warts! I was upset as I enjoy wearing makeup and was not able to wear it because of Demodex Blepharitis causing such terrible eye irritation and was making it hard to see. Also, I had been gardening, and as often happens, walking around in the dirt in sandals led to some ankle warts. I bought the soap to cure the Demodex, as I had read that this is a promising cure, but started using it as my bath soap too and I cured my warts!First I should explain that if you've used Dr. Bonner's soap, this will not seem unusual to you. It is not thick or gel-like. But if using it on the face, put a teaspoon's worth in your cupped hand and add a little water, then rub hands together and wash your face, scrubbing and splashing. If you have Blepharitis, keep your eyes tightly shut and use your fingers to thoroughly wash your eyelash area, being careful not to accidentally get in your eyes (stings!). Then cup your hands and rinse (I cup my hands, fill with water and rinse about 6-10 times, being careful to ensure all the soap is rinsed away from my eyes). It will rinse off much more quickly than regular soap, but rinse thoroughly.I have super dry skin. Afterward, I put a small dime sized amount of Desert Essence Cucumber and Aloe (with Tea Tree lotion) on and then in my palm I place 3 drops of Vitamin E oil and 4 Drops of Tea Tree oil. I rub these together and then gently rub all over my face, keeping my eyes tightly shut and applying right up to the lash line but not over.At first I did not care for the aroma of Tea Tree Oil, but now I've come to enjoy t knowing it keeps my eyes clean and healthy. Best of all I am able to wear makeup! :) I wash my makeup brushes in this soap too to avoid repropogating those little Demodex monsters.I paid for this product myself, and I did not receive any $ for writing this review. I just wanted other sufferers to get some relief!

I've been using this cleanser for about a year now and have tried different ways of using it. It does have a very "liquidy" consistency which makes it a tad difficult to work with as it runs off your hands as you lift them to your face. (I wash my face in the shower) Some have used it in a foaming bottle, which I too have done. I just used an old Bath and Body Works bottle and it does work great, but I'm just silly and felt I wasn't getting a "pure" form of this cleanser. I know I'm weird. It cleanses well, and you do need moisturizer or your face will feel dry. But I wanted a good scrubbing which you don't really get with this used alone.So here's my tip that has taken this cleanser to a whole other level. Use coffee grounds to act as an exfoliator. Keep a small container of grounds (sometimes I use expresso grounds as they are more fine but it's up to you and what you like). Pour a small amount of grounds into your hand, then pump some of this cleanser onto it and mix together. This also helps to keep the liquid from running off your hands as you raise it to your face since it's now mixed with the grounds. My face feels SO clean after I use this method and coffee is good for your skin, helps boost collagen so win win. Then I apply my hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and moisturizer . (by the way, make sure to clean out your outer ear afterwards)Are you as lazy as I am and hate to wash your face at night to remove your makeup? You know who you are. I've made some DIY wipes using this cleanser and other ingredients that are beneficial to your skin. I keep them in my room next to my bed so before I lay down I can grab one, wipe my face really well then apply some of my retinol cream and I'm done! Do some research on what's great for your skin, I've tried many different recipes and finally settled on one I like which I will share with you if you're taking that laziness one step further and just want the darn recipe. :-)Recipe for DIY Facial Cleansing and Makeup Remover Wipes (I use seventh generation baby wipes for this, but you can use thick paper towels or even cut up diaper cloths but of course you'd have to keep washing them and remember I'm lazy? At the moment I have the wipes in a wipe warmer and a warm wipe feels so nice, just periodically add purified water to the stack as it will tend to dry out a little).~2-3 cups purified water~2 tbsp fractionated coconut oil or olive oil~1 tsbp witch hazel~3 tbsp of this cleanser OR liquid castile soap~1 tsp vitamin E oil~20-25 drops of Frankincense essential oil or Lavender (don't use tea tree as it is already in the cleanser if you use it)~~Keep in mind, this is my personal preferred recipe that works for me. I don't always add all ingredients if I don't have them on hand. I'm just sharing this to get you started on your own recipe if you're interested~~ Hope this helps you!

Came across this old favorite from my teen years, and decided to try again - glad I did!For reference: I am an adult with oily, acne-prone and somewhat sensitive skin. Too harsh chemicals or scrubbing will really irritate skin around my nose, chin and cheekbones, in particular. Oh, and I always forget - my cheeks only are quite normal to dry! It's pretty mean, but such is life. :PThis product works great. It's fairly gentle, so I can use it with a soft washcloth to lightly exfoliate my skin. It's frustrating to have sensitive skin that is easily congested by oil, that *needs* daily exfoliation, but this stuff seems to bridge the gap of gentle + cleansing. It feels like the tea tree helps heal my skin on the occasions which I over-scrub or it gets damaged by the harsh weather.I like that Desert Essence has been a company with a good conscience for decades, and I really like the price, too. If you have combo, oily and/or acne-prone skin - this one to try.Note: This is a huge 32 oz bottle, with no pump. It's probably a refill bottle, but this price (currently ~$13) just can't be beat. Buy a pump, or pour some into a smaller bottle that you refill, like I do.Oh, and my boyfriend sometimes steals a wash-worth of this when the skin under his beard is itchy, flaky -- generally winter cranky. He likes it, too. :-)UPDATE: 12/01/2015 - Okay, so this really is a ridiculously large bottle. As such, especially given my propensity to try new things, this bottle was still heavy and full after nearly a year of time. Since taking stock of this I decided to see what else I could do with this wash, and I found that it made for an interesting bath.As a bath additive - this is not foamy for long. It flattens out very quickly and leaves the water cloudy. I think this is due to the castille soap, as this is the same as Dr. Bronner's soaps. Like Bronner, you may not want to get this in your hair, or if you do reeeeeally rinse and condition and rinse - or you will get a weird residue + dry out thing. It also may gunk up your razor and leave a film in the tub.BUT, if you like tea tree scent and/or have oily/acne/etc body skin or anything else which can be cleared up by the medicinal properties of tea tree oil -- this makes a strong and effective bath. I don't really have oily skin aside from my face, neck and chest, but this still left my skin feeling great after a soak and jumping out of the bath to slather on some body oil. And I do happen to find some of the mediciney-smelling scents refreshing-- tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, etc. Mmm!Hope this helps! :-)

I don't know if it's the combo of this and vitamin d-3 and an all-natural moisturizer; or just this wash alone that's taking me on the verge of completely clearing my acne but I won't complain and I won't change my regimen - it's working!All-natural seems best for me.If I see acid this and that on the labels of any product that concerns faces, I head for the doors.I use this wash sometimes three or four times a day (which is totally against the recommended use of twice a day lol) - a complete minute of face massaging - and with at least three hour intervals. And I would strongly recommend moisturizing right after each wash.EDIT (7/30/15):There is a hidden gem that I discovered and it is Argan oil. In fact, I credit Argan oil in healing/lightening my acne scars and preventing future breakouts including cystic acne. The Argan oil is the "moisturizing part" I stated in my original review and I dare say the oil is MORE instrumental in treating my acne than this DE Face Wash because it actually is more than a moisturizer because it also contains vitamin E and other things (like I said, it's a hidden gem). All in all, the way to fight acne is to attack it locally (topically - direct skin intervention) and systemically (oral meds, etc.). Because if there is anything I have learned in school, it is that the exact cause of acne has not been ever singled out (i.e. is it hormonal, dietary, etc?). So I checked all the boxes. I took multivitamins especially vitamin C, zinc, and vitamin D. and used topically this DE Face Wash and applied the said Argan oil. I have had good results so I don't mind sharing it with you all. I know acne sucks so bad. If my method can help someone else, great. If not, I wish you the best and good luck.

First of all, you need to buy a foaming pump to use the refill size of this product or you're not getting the most for your money! I read a few reviews saying they were just pouring it straight into their hand. This product is VERY liquidy, and you would be pouring most of the product down the drain with each use if you poured it straight from the bottle.Okay, now for the review:I bought this back in November of 2013 and wanted to continue using this for a while so I could really give a good review. It's now been 4 months of (mostly consistent) use so, this is my opinion for ya. Hope it helps!In my foaming soap pump I originally poured this product in straight, no dilution. It has a very strong tea tree oil smell, it was..different, since most face washes are fragranced to be flowery and girly, but I didn't mind. It washed away and didn't linger. My skin was very clean after use. Squeaky clean, even! I immediately had to put moisturizer on or I felt way too dried out. I have combination skin so the dry parts seemed to get very tight and flaky, whereas the oily parts seemed…normal or on the dry side of normal. After a few days my skin freaked out and I looked like a lobster :( It was terrible! It cleared up, but it took around 3 days, during that time I had switched to using a sensitive Olay face wash, using it very sparingly and putting aloe on after (I mostly just splashed with water if I needed to refresh throughout the day). I was so upset that I, 1. looked like a lobster and, 2. couldn't enjoy this product like the positive reviewers! It was such a good deal, I was so bummed!I stopped using this product because I was very wary about having my skin react negatively again. A few weeks later I was planning on writing a review for this, but instead I decided to read through some more of the reviews already here. I was hoping to find someone else who had a similar reaction and if they had tried anything to help. Well, a few mentioned diluting the product with water. DUH! Why didn't I think of that?! I went on to dilute it to a 1:1 ratio, a few uses later it was still too drying for me, so I added even more water (it's probably now a 3 or 4:1 ratio)The foaming action of the pump is really so helpful, 1. You're not wasting product, which is awesome. 2. You don't need to make the lather, it's already there! It's nice when you're feeling lazy and just want to go to bed, but you know you need to wash your face first 3. You're diluting it, so you're going extend the life and use of this huge refill bottle. I haven't needed to buy face wash since I bought this, and I won't need to for quite a while. The original bottle looks like I haven't even used it. I use this face wash almost everyday (I did have another face wash I was using along with it occasionally). I only need 2 pumps to have enough lather to clean my whole face.It takes off facial make up pretty easily, but I do NOT recommend using this on or around your eyes. I can't say much about this face wash clearing acne or anything, I haven't seen any improvement…but I also haven't seen any adverse reactions with the few pimples I do get. Honestly, I *would* repurchase this because it was such an awesome deal and I finally figured out how to make it work for me!TL;DR / The Short Version:*Very liquify, not a gel*Buy a foaming soap pump*Dilute, dilute, dilute*Lasts a very long time*Can be drying*Didn't notice it helping OR hurting pimples*Smells very strongly of tea tree oil, but it does not linger once washed off*I feel that it is a great dealHope this helps :)

I have been using this face wash for about 6 months now.So I guess I will start out by stating what my skin type is like. I have mildly oily skin with the majority of the oil just being on my T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). The rest of my face is mostly on the normal side. I usually break out on my forehead and chin. I get occasional breakouts on my cheeks as well. These are all mostly regular pimples or white heads. I do not get blackheads. My skin is not too sensitive. Now I will go into the pros and cons of this face wash.PROS:-The price is phenomenal! You get 32 ounces for about 12 dollars (I believe I saw it once on drugstore.com on sale for 9.99). I have had this face wash for about 6 months now and I am barely halfway through with using it. I think it will last another 7-8 months.-It has all natural ingredients so you don't have to worry about that.-It removes make up relatively well (you still should use a make up remover wipe or something before you wash your face just to make sure there are no traces of make up left)-It removes dirt, oil, etc.-It has definitely helped with my breakouts. I used to have a few stubborn pimples on my cheek that never went away and after about a week of using this night and day they went away! They still come back every once in a while but nothing as bad as before.CONS:-It is very drying!! I have somewhat oily skin and this still dried me out. Especially around my mouth. If I use it everyday twice a day for more than a week, it dries out the area around my lips. I would NOT recommend this for people with dry skin. If I can't use a face cleanser on a daily basis without it drying me out, then it is not a good cleanser in my book. I bought this so I can use it everyday. And since I cannot I will most likely not be repurchasing it.-I understand this is a refill so I guess if you have the pump bottle then getting out the right amount would not be a problem. However, I didn't have the pump bottle, so I had to get this out by just tipping it over and pouring just a tiny tiny tiny tiny amount in the cap and placing that into my hands (which are already wet) and lathering it up. Again, if you have a pump bottle, this will not be an issue.-The smell is not the most pleasant thing in the world. For some people, it might smell really bad. But for me, I didn't mind it too much. It was okay because as soon as you wash it off, it doesn't linger. I know a girl who actually liked how it smelled. So it's just different for everyone. And while it was not a deal breaker for me, I can imagine that it might be for those who are more sensitive to its scent.Overall, I think this is a decent cleanser. I just think it is way too harsh. I think I can find something else with natural/organic ingredients that cleans just as well but still not be so harsh on my face. However, I do not think I will be able to find anything with a price as amazing as this because I have already looked into other organic/natural face washes that I want to purchase and all of them are much more expensive.

I honestly love this product. I have spend so much money on various over the counter facial washes that leave my face still breaking out, dry and peeling. I have used this product for over a month now and I have to say, my skin has never been better. I should mention I do drink lots of water now more than i used to as well but I believe its a combined effort of drinking atleast 64 oz a day and the Desert Essence Face Wash.I wash my face in the morning, before I go to bed and immediately after working out and I can feel it working. My face feels so clean. I also use Vitamin E moisturizer on my face before I go to bed to help with healing my acne scars. I don't use the Vitamin E moisturizer in the morning because i have oily skin and I don't want my face to shine. I am African American with dark skin and i have had moderate to severe acne since i was a teenager. I am now in my early thirties and feel so much more confident about my skin. If you are unsure about this product, I highly recommend it!!!My boyfriend also has really bad acne and I gave him some to use because he would always break out with really big blackheads. Even though he never said anything about it, I know what its like to have acne. In any case, I got him drinking 2 liters of water a day and using Desert Essence and even he admits his face has really cleared up. He is African with really really oil skin (worse than mine). As skeptical as he was, he is now a believer in drinking water and using Desert Essence. I should also mention it was quite challenging getting him to commit to drinking water and using the product but daily reminders and the promise that i would detail his entire truck if it didn't work got him to try it out. Guess what? I didn't lose!Oh yes, i almost forgot to mention how much i use. I bought the 32 oz for a little under $10 and with two people using it two or three times a day, I am not even a quarter way into the bottle. You definitely get your money's worth. At first i was wasting the product cause i was pouring directly out of the 32 oz bottle. I recommend looking for the 3 oz (thats the size i gave my boyfriend) or the 4-6oz plastic clear bottle that you can pour some of the product into. You really only need 2 or 3 squirts tops. I think the product will last me months so even though $10 sounds pricey, remember you will use it for i'm guessing 3-4 months depending on how frequently you wash your face. I have only used 1/4 and i'm sharing it with my boyfriend so it would probably last me longer if it was just me.If you've spend money on ProActive, Clearasil, Neutrogena and are still unhappy with your face, try this product. It will be the best decision you have made for your face!
