It is an effective soothing agent for inflammation in personal areas of the body. After you wipe, apply a small amount with toilet tissue to the affected area.

I have bowel disease and had my entire large intestine removed, so bile salts leaving my body grind up my skin pretty bad until I’m dripping blood. (I have no colon to reabsorb them before they leave the rectum like acid). Just the touch of toilet paper is very painful. A little of this, and I can clean myself and sooth the irritated, burnt up skin to help it heal. The ingredients seem pretty basic, so I don’t know why it’s so expensive. But when you need this, it’s worth its weight in gold. Unbelievably effective. Couldn’t believe it. Great for hemorrhoids as well. Soothes (like putting out a fire), gives the area a chance to heal, and cleans the area for hygiene and to prevent infection. Highly recommend it. Other than the generic version with the same formula, I haven’t been able to find anything that comes close to working like this formulation does. Eases discomfort to suffering.

I recently had my first colonoscopy, and I had been warned that the prep was the worst part. Yeah, that was a total understatement. I am SO grateful to my mom, who told me to lay in a supply of this Balneol lotion to use when ... um ... tidying up after eliminating.I will admit, I was skeptical. Lotion? For my BUM?! Turns out, that's a very definite YES.If you've had a colonoscopy, you know that after you drink that concoction of vileness that they call the "prep drink," you're going to poop in much the same way that Vesuvius erupts. Trip after trip to the loo, right? Right. Oh, you thought you were done and could have a little lie-down to recover? Haha. NOPE! Why don't you just bring in War and Peace and sit here the rest of the day?So after a few trips to the throne room, your bum feels a bit sore. Even the softest toilet tissue feels like 80-grit sandpaper rasping all the skin off your most delicate bits. And you can't stop going to the loo, because that death-potion you had to drink is ripping through you like a wildfire through a summer-dry grassland. In fact, your bum feels like it might BE on fire.That's where this lotion stuff comes in. After gently patting the worst of the debris off your bum, you take a fresh piece of toilet roll and put a bit of this stuff on it. Use that to clean up the rest of you. The relief is instant, like a cup of ice-water after a mid-day hike through Death Valley in mid-August. And it does seem to make the cleanup more effective.I imagine people with chronic digestive issues would also find this useful, and I know that on days when my "girl thing" is happening, it's a relief to clean up using this product. But if you're slated for a colonoscopy, you should most definitely lay in a supply of this stuff. You're gonna need it!

I am 47 and I have suffered from anal itching since at least my 20's, if not my teens. Sometimes it would go away for a while, always to return. I didn't know what caused it. And if you look up pruritis ani (the medical term for it), there are dozens of causes. Over the years I thought I had worms, fungal infections, you name it. I tried everything. I got the best relief from prescription steroid cream, but shortly after stopping the cream, the itching would come back. And steroid creams aren't safe for long term use. They can thin the skin.And lest you think this is a minor annoyance, I wanted to shove a wire brush up my backside. That's how bad it is. It is a serious quality of life issue.Well, sometime in my mid-40's I figured out what my problem was. I am apparently sensitive to even a molecule of stool being left on my skin. Because I got news for you. You wipe with toilet paper. And after a few wipes, there's no more smudges on the toilet paper. It looks clean. But there's still A LOT of stool still on your skin. Now, a lot of people are not sensitive to that. But based on these reviews there are lots of people who are, and I'm one of them.And this lotion is a lifesaver. I'm always amazed every time I use it. I wipe until the toilet paper is clean. Then I put a dab of this on some toilet paper and wipe. There'll be A LOT of stool come off onto the paper. WTF? Where was this stool hiding out? In the nooks and crannies of the anus? I'm always amazed.Here's a tip for the ladies: We're supposed to wipe from front to back to avoid getting fecal bacteria into the vaginal area. But I find that most of my itching happened at the part of the anus closest to the vagina, and if I use the Balneol from back to front, I can get more of the stool off. I think all the folds and whatnot at that part of my anus trap more stool. Be careful to stop before you go to far, but I do find that if I do a couple wipes from back to front (while doing most of them from front to back like I'm supposed to), I get all the stool off and the itching is a distant memory.

I struggled for years to find a remedy for anal itching. I thought I had hemorrhoids, pinworms, or a dozen other possible causes. The intensity of the itching often kept me up at night. And appeared many times throughout the day, particularly while walking. I eventually just accepted it and lived with it for roughly a decade, maybe more.
