that brews up a great cup of smooth, fragrant tea. It seems like it would be strong enough to brew a second cup, but life is too short to be cheap with tea leaves. Brew it long enough to give it some real color and flavor, don't be shy.
Wife’s favorite.
Surprisingly good taste and quality
Reasonably priced, exceptionally good tasting.
The product arrived in a timely manner, nice loose leaf tea;the package had some minor damage.
Delicious quality tea--I commonly buy Ahmad teas both online & at a local shop. Great choice!
I wanted to get away from tea bags due to concern of microplastics. Long leaf ablack teas are also generally higher quality than CTC teas. So instead of Ahmad teabags (which come in several flavors, including Assam), I ordered this one. Price was less than most of the other Assam long leaf teas, and I have really enjoyed the taste (other than my first cup, which was stronger/more bitter than the Ahmad cardamom tea bags that I have used before, so I steep my tea for a little less time now). I wish this same tea came in organic Assam tea, but have been quite happy with it. Note that I drink my tea with milk and sugar, although for me, it tastes really nice without any milk as well.
Taste great! Truly enjoyed the flavor. Only deducted a star because I was expecting the tea to come in a tin and not a cardboard box.
I drink large quantities whole leaf tea daily whenever I’m not trying to speak. My go to is Assam. This is a solid tea for a very competitive price. It turns out that price and quality have not as much to do with each other as one would think when shopping vendor talk and pretty boxes. Great tea costs no doubt, but one is just as likely to pay dearly for a pretty box when shopping the market. Ahmad’s Kalami Assam is a real value at under a dollar an ounce.
Iced tea is my beverage of choice, and I probably drink 5-6 liters per week. This tea has a wonderful flavor, with a floral note which I find quite refreshing.Assam tends to brew much stronger than many other varieties, so I recommend using less than you might with Ceylon, Darjeeling, etc. If you do this, you'll get a wonderful brew, and save some money at the same time.Enjoy!
This assam tea is really good. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's close, and for this price you really can't go wrong. It makes excellent iced tea as well. Don't steep it any longer than 3 minutes and it should not be bitter as some have said. There is a very slight bitterness, but that's just the way assam tea is. It's part of its tannic flavor profile.
After trying many Assam's this is the one I've landed on. Previously my preferred brand was Taylors. I tried several, bagged and loose leaf, and this one I think has the best strength and flavor. The amount for the price is excellent too. I wasn't paying too much attention to that and was pleasantly surprised to receive so much. No complaints on freshness either. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good loose leaf Assam.
Strongest Malty Taste of Any Assam of the many I've tried.I love Assam tea, and this one, is the exceptional one. Friends from India have sent me Assam from the tea gardens, this one still is the best. It's long leaves with golden tips and NOT small broken leaves like the other offering Barooti from Ahmad.
Ahmad Tea is a well-known brand that offers a variety of high-quality teas, including black teas。 The Kalami Assam Loose Leaf tea from Ahmad Tea is a type of black tea that originates from the Assam region in India。Assam tea is renowned for its robust and bold flavor profile。 The loose-leaf variety tends to offer a more full-bodied and rich taste compared to tea bags because the larger leaves provide a more nuanced and complex flavor when brewed properly.Kalami Assam Loose Leaf tea likely embodies some of the following characteristics:1. Strong Flavor: Assam black tea typically has a strong, bold flavor with malty undertones. It can be quite rich and full-bodied.2. Caffeine Content: Being a black tea, it contains a moderate to high amount of caffeine, making it a good choice for those seeking a morning or midday energy boost.3. Versatile Brewing: Loose leaf teas often allow for a more customizable brewing experience. The brewing time, water temperature, and the amount of tea leaves used can all impact the taste of the brewed tea.4. Rich Aroma: Assam teas often have a robust aroma, sometimes described as having a slightly sweet or biscuity note.5. Color: The brewed tea is likely to have a deep, reddish-brown color.
Ahmad teas are popular in Ireland and the UK (and elsewhere) as an affordable way to enjoy high-quality tea. I used to drink Ahmad tea in Ireland where it was the default loose tea for many. Full-bodied, but not overpowering or bitter. The instructions recommend steeping for 5 – 10 minutes. For the canister and glass teapot I use, 9 minutes appears to be ideal for the strength desired. 1 tablespoon is sufficient to make one liter's worth of tea. For my money, Ahmad teas are the best value for good quality loose tea on the market.NB: This tea is not organic. But in my experience, non-organic loose teas often taste better than their organic counterparts (which I try to buy when high quality ones are available).
I have been drinking various Ahmad teas for a couple of years now, and when I moved away from the store where I used to buy them, I turned to Amazon. The price is a little higher here, oddly, but it saves me a drive.Kalami Assam is an excellent cup of tea. I make it with a little lemon and sugar and steep it way too long because that's how I like it. What's great is that, even though I steep the pot for 20 minutes, it gets nice and strong without being bitter at all. The tea leaves are also nice and big, so you don't end up with a bunch of sludge at the bottom of the pot after you strain it. I use 10 gm. in a quart of hot water to make a pot.I have a subscription to this stuff because it is so good. My only wish would be for the seller to carry the entire line of Ahmad teas. They have a wide variety and it would be good to be able to mix and match.
I'm a little obsessed with good tea. I thought I'd order this to take with me on a business trip, so I could enjoy loose leaf tea on the road, and not place my more expensive stash at risk while I travel.Well, I have to say I'm VERY impressed! I was expecting mediocre, okay, pleasant tea. This is actually very good stuff.I mixed this tea with the Ahmad Ceylon Earl Grey to add some flavor. I used one teaspoon of Earl Grey, two teaspoons of the Kalami Assam, placing the Earl Grey on top of the unflavored Assam to balance out the extraction. I also added two teaspoons of Xilitol (healthy sugar substitute) to the pot.I used a standard teapot with a contact infuser, boiling 0.75 liters of water, waiting ten seconds, then pouring the water into the infuser. I set the timer to 3:00 minutes. After 3:00 minutes, I removed the tea leaves, stirred the pot, covered it, and began pouring. The flavor was very good, well-balanced, and not bitter. after the third cup, the flavor actually improved (this tasted better when it cooled off a bit, not too hot). I enjoyed every sip, and finished the whole pot within 40 minutes. Here are a couple of additional tips, after some experimenting:1. My ideal brewing time for this tea is 3 minutes. 4 minutes can work if you like a stronger, more astringent brew. After 4 minutes the tea quickly became bitter. 3 minutes seems idea.2. Count to ten (ten seconds) after boiling the water before pouring it over the tea leaves. Otherwise you might burn your tea and ruin the flavor. This tea blend has many broken leaves in it, which release a lot of tannic acid when burned. That's what leads to the bitter flavor.3. If you hot brew this tea and then refrigerate it, the tea will become very cloudy and lose much of its fragrant flavor. Although I prefer iced tea, this tea is best served warm or hot.4. This tea makes a decent cold brew. If you cold brew the tea, it will not become cloudy. I am mixing 1/3 Earl Grey, 2/3 Kalami Assam, 2 table spoons (6 teaspoons) in a 32 ounce Mason Jar, and then leaving it in the refrigerator for two days, with some sugar in the jar. The flavor is very smooth and uplifting, with no bitterness. The tea comes out clear (not cloudy) if you cold brew it. The flavor is different from a hot brew.Hope that helps. I do recommend this as a budget tea. It will take me 6 months to get through this supply, if I use it to make two teapots per week.
You're gonna be sorrryyyy..., was the little voice in my head as I made cup number three of this lovely, aromatic tea in the middle of the afternoon. Yes, I'll be awake till next week, but I don't sleep much anyway, so I'll enjoy life in the moment I'm living right now (and regret it later, but that's later, so who cares?)Came packed in a sealed foil bag inside of the Ahmad box. When I cut the bag open, there was a rich, flowery scent. Took a few long, deep inhales directly from the bag. A rush, for sure.Brewing it, people say you can let it steep longer than the Barooti, but I'd disagree, after three-mins it was already more powerful than most Assams. 3-4mins using a tablespoon (perhaps my addiction has become out of control, but I like tea to have taste!) per cup and it's already getting a little tannic. 2-3mins seems best. Not the classic Assam flavor I'm used to (and I get my Assams from a tea shop in India where I teach and live part-time), but it's a lovely cup of tea no less. If you're looking for that light, fleeting Assam flowery taste, perhaps use only a teaspoon and brew for less time. Overall, esp. considering price per pound, this tea is a WINNER!EDIT: After more than a month with this tea, it's my new go-to in the morning (or afternoon when I get really stupid). Not the best tea I've had (the old Rishi China Breakfast Black was that, but even that is different now, changed growers and blend, still good, but not the best), but certainly for the price it's a solid, lovely tea. Sipping a cup now and had forgotten that I'd left a review, so leaving this edit. If you like black teas, you will not regret this purchase at all!-------------Update Aug 2019: Bought another pound of this tea, it's again my favorite go-to morning tea. Still a great tea. Fresh and lovely flavor, very rich and malty. For the price it's the best bargain around!-------------Update Oct 2020: Another pound, but this one took one star away. Lackluster, dried out tasting, tastes like "tea," but nothing like the classic, flowery Assam flavor this tea has always had. Not sure if maybe I received a pkg that had sat on the shelf too long or what, but this is not worth looking forward to in the morning. Will keep trying, perhaps the next pound will correct what this one lacked.--------------Update May 2021: Another pound, still not what it was, but still a good, solid morning tea. Lacking in the classic Assam taste it once had. Thought it might be me, that my taste had changed, but I still have a handful of the older stuff from a few years ago and one cup tells me this is different from what the older stuff was. Again though, it's still a nice morning tea, better than any bagged tea out there...--------------Update, Aug 2022: Got another pound, dry and tastes "old" or oxidized. Packing label shows October 2019, foil bag inside is sealed, but I use DOUBLE what I normally used and change steeping times, but still not the flavor and aroma I remember from this tea. It's an "OK" tea, probably good for making iced tea, but far from the rich, flowery taste of classic Assam. Used to drink this every day, now, it's too lackluster of a tea for that, so maybe once a week. Sad...-----------UPDATE, Dec 2022: Still a very drinkable tea, for the $9 it sells for a pound, it's hard to complain. Latest batch is again dried out a bit, breaks into dust easily, flavor is OK, but tastes a bit "dusty" and old. All in all though, still my go-to for a bfast tea.
I don't usually write reviews for things right out of the gate. I use the thing for a while and get to know it. So, full disclosure, I've been drinking this tea for three days. To be fair, in my world that's a lot of tea.I picked this up because while I usually favor high end Yunnan black, Fujian oolong, or pouchong, some days you just want a drama-less cup of tea. You may not have time to perform a whole multiple-steeps gongfu ceremony when you just need some caffeine on your way out the door. I don't know about you, but I don't want to put high end dustless green oolong in a travel mug.I've made this tea in various ways and with a variety of steeping times (always with boiling water) and I can say one thing, this tea is pleasant and absolutely impossible to mess up. It always tastes about the same, and you can steep it twice with no loss in enjoyment. It has a gentle flavor and mild astringency. The aftertaste is mild but distinctly Assam-ish. You can't mistake it for anything else, even though many Assams I've tried are darker, more aggressive, and significantly drier and more bitter. So, on the whole, it's a good value and is totally drinkable, though if you're a teasnob I don't see it replacing your all-time favorites.
I live in a rural area and so it's difficult for me to get decent loose leaf tea without a long drive. I decided to give Amazon a try, though I was a little apprehensive about buying tea online. I new I liked Ahmad's Earl Grey but that wasn't available loose online so I decided to give this one a try. I'm glad I did! The package was well-sealed and VERY fresh. The box says it was packed just a few weeks ago. As for the flavor, it's outstanding. I like a fairly strong cup of tea and this delivers a rich flavor that is also very smooth, not too bitter. The leaves brew well a second time so you can get two pots out of them if you like to do that, although I prefer my tea stronger.Overall this seems to be a good value at about $10 for a pound. Again I don't have a lot of prices to compare that with where I live but figuring you get about 60 teabags for $10 vs about 250 cups in this package it's definitely not a bad price for a quality tea!The only thing I would add is that you get a LOT of tea: be sure you have some ziploc bags or a nice airtight cannister to keep it fresh! I had to pick up an extra to hold all of this package.
